Culdrose Trip - December 3rd 2006

The eagerly awaited day trip to Culdrose proved to be a great success, with 28 club members aboard two mini buses, driven by Cliff and Gabi Humphries, meeting in the club car park at 0915hrs. After a 3 hr trip heading towards Cornwall on a cold, dry morning, we linked up with two more members at the gates to the base, where we were met by Scott Jackson, the U.S. Coastguard, who escorted the buses onto the base towards 771 Squadron’s headquarters where we were offered coffee before heading towards the S.A.R. helicopter on the tarmac. It was a tight squeeze trying to juggle 30 eager people inside to look at controls and equipment, all trying to hear Scott explaining how everything worked. It was bitterly cold out on the tarmac and the warmth of the crew’s coffee and rest rooms to have our packed lunches was much appreciated. After 2 hrs we headed back to the buses for the return trip to Starcross, everyone of the opinion - it had been a great day out, enjoyed by all.          Jenny
