Subject - Whiting Competition - Results

Sorry that it was a last minute decision to hold the comp on the Sunday but with the weather changing overnight and many of our members lifting their boats out this week, I decided to go ahead with the comp.
It was well supported with 24 members fishing and we had at least 10 weighing fish in.
The biggest Whiting of the day was 1lb 4.2oz caught by one of our new members, Tom McFarlane, who made his way out to a mark Kevin had given him, tied up behind them, and promptly showed how to catch the bigger Whiting.
For those who have problems using their GPS, please have a word with Tom, because he found his way to the mark using his car TomTom. I must ask him what street he was on.

I would like to take this opportunity of thanking you all for taking part in our competitions, it makes the Accumulator all the more exciting.
We have had 4 different winners since the competition started, and may it continue like this too.

Subject - Bass and Wrasse Competition Results

1st September - The first day of the Bass and Wrasse Comp turned out to be the perfect day, with light winds and sunshine.
With over 20 people fishing, everyone had high hopes of doing well, but unfortunately only 5 people brought fish to the scales. The biggest of these was a Bass of 4lb 3.8oz caught by Lee Pearson.
Lee's Ballan Wrasse, of 3lb 6.8oz, was also the biggest Wrasse of day 1.
Everything to play for on the second day of the competition, which is next week-end weather permitting.

8th September - Second day, and sea conditions were again perfect.
The big challenge was getting out of the river because of the fog.
There were 10 boats and 23 people fishing.
Once again the Bass were difficult to find, it has been that sort of year.
Carolyn Whiting, with a Bass of 4lb 13.8oz, was not only the best Bass of the day, but was also the best over the two days.
Carolyn also went on to better her Wrasse, with a fish of 2lb 12oz.
It was nice to see Helen Roden catch her first Bass of 3lb 1oz, caught aboard 'Bounty'.

Things are still 'all or nothing' for the top positions in the Competition Accumulator.

Don't forget the Whiting Comp on Saturday 6th October, weather permitting.

Subject - Black Bream Competition - Results

The weather was perfect, with light winds and plenty of sun, and the sea as flat as a pancake.

There were 19 club members fishing aboard 8 boats, all fishing their favourite marks from Budleigh, Straight Point, and Tardice.

Unfortunately there were only 5 members who weighed Bream in, and they were fishing aboard just two boats, Emily Jane and J's Pleasure.
The three biggest Bream were caught aboard J's Pleasure, and it was one of our new members, Steve Marks, who won the competition, with a fine Black Bream of 3lb 3.4oz.

Don't forget the first day of the combined Bass and Wrasse Competition is on the 1st or 2nd September, whichever is the best, with the second day of this competition due to be held on September 8th or 9th, weather permitting.

Subject - Conger and Interclub Competitions - Results

CONGER COMP Saturday 21st July 2012

The Conger Comp took place, with only one re-scheduling necessary.
With sunshine forecast all day, it was not surprising to see so many of our club members out fishing. The tide was not ideal for Conger fishing, and the annual algae bloom was in abundance, which always seems to discourage fish from feeding too.
So it was no surprise to see the Conger count down this year.
There were six Congers caught, the biggest of these being an eel of 32lbs, by Peter Harmer aboard his boat Bounty, anchored up on the Sub Wreck.
All Congers were returned to the water alive.

Donít forget our next comp is the Bream Comp on Saturday 18th August, or Sunday 19th August, weather permitting.

THE INTER CLUB COMP SFCC vs EDSFC was on Sunday 22nd July 2012

This is a best two specimen club competition.
Exmouth Deep Sea Fishing Club hosted the Interclub Comp this year, and with the sunny weather continuing, it was good to see so many members taking part.
There were at least 23 of our members fishing, aboard 11 boats, and Exmouth had 29 members fishing aboard 10 boats.
So it was always going to be a hotly contested competition.

We felt quietly confident as we had won the last 3 competitions on the trot.

But alas, with Paul Witherís Conger of 40lbs representing 100%, and a Cuckoo Wrasse of 1lb 6oz representing 128%, it was not to be for us this year. Well done EDSFC.
However one of our new members, Paul Wakely, fishing aboard Emily Jane, did extremely well, with a Lesser Spotted Dogfish of 2lb 11.3ozs, representing 90% specimen rating. As well as a Cuckoo Wrasse of 1lb 4.6oz representing 101.88%, which turned out to be our two best specimens. So well done Paul.

Congratulations to Exmouth, and look out next year.
EDSFC put on a lovely evening event at the Exmouth Sailing Club, with excellent food, enjoyable company and the sun setting over the water rounded off a most enjoyable day.

Subject - Men's and Ladies Mackerel and Most Species Competitions - Results

The weather was not ideal with 3-4 west south west winds forecast.
But I thought we might just get away with it.
Sea conditions were challenging, and it was nice to see 11 club boats participating in the competition.
There were approximately 20 members fishing, but the catches were disappointing because of the sea state
Still 9 members weighed in fish, with Pete Harmer's Mackerel of 1lb 6.2ozs winning the day. This was caught aboard his boat 'Bounty'.

It was also nice to see one of our new members Robin Phillips taking second place with a Mackerel of 15.2oz caught aboard his boat 'Mira', and one of our new lady members, Jan Lees, taking 6th position with a Mackerel of 8.6oz, caught aboard her boat 'Zulu'.

The second part of this Competition was the Most Species.
We had two members sharing the top spot with 4 species each. Colin Dell with Pollock, Mackerel, Cuckoo Wrasse and Dogfish aboard his boat 'Dream Catcher', and Wayne Endicott with Pout, Pollock, Mackerel and Wrasse aboard his boat 'Joanna'.

Just to remind you of the Conger Comp on Saturday 21st July, and the Interclub Best Two Specimens Comp on Sunday 22nd July.

Subject - Pollack Competition - Results

At long last we were able to hold the Pollack comp on Sunday 8th July, after 3 previous postponements.
It was well worth the wait, the weather was kind with a westerly wind.

There were 20 people fishing aboard 11 boats, and the weather got better as the day went on.
7 weighed in Pollack, with the biggest being a fish of 4lb 7oz, caught by Lee Pearson, aboard his boat Emily Jane, fishing on the Bretange Wreck.

Don't forget the Conger Comp is on Saturday 14th July, and the Ladies & Mens Mackerel and Most Species on Sunday 15th July, weather permitting. Only your biggest Mackerel needs to be weighed- in on the day.

Subject - 2012 Exe Regatta Competition - Results

Firstly, a big thank you to our sponsors - Charter Boats - Rose-Ann & Trinitas of Exe, Exeter Angling Centre, Harbour News, Ash Marine Chandlery, John Bridger Marine, and Peter Dixon Chandlery.

61 anglers, in a total of 22 boats, were signed on.
The weigh-in was well attended, with 25 fish, and 7 different species, brought to the scales.

Disappointing weather conditions kept the majority of boats in the river. A few braved local inshore locations, but quickly scurried back into the Exe around mid-day.

Surprises this year, proved that we still have a healthy stock of Flounders in the Exe, (helped along too, because most of those caught were returned alive). Also Bill Searles, "Impenza", was rewarded with a rare visitor, a Gilthead Bream. Unfortunately, it was too small to be in the prizes, but well worthy of a mention.

The Regatta Fishing Competition presentation took place at Lympstone Sailing Club on Sunday 1st July.
5 of the top 6 places went to SFCC members.
And not only did Andy Wareham, "Emily", win the top prize of £300, he has also broken the SFCC all time Silver Eel record.

Subject - Flatfish Competition - Results

What a start to the season, with 33 members fishing our first competition of the year, the Flatfish Comp.

And didn't the Ladies do well, in comparison to the number of men fishing.
It is the first time for a number of years that a Plaice has won the Flatfish comp, as it is usually a Flounder.
Donna, with her Plaice of 1lb 13.8oz aboard Dream Catcher, won her the competition, showing her husband Colin, and brother Wayne how it is done.

It was nice to see so many couples fishing aboard their boats, and in harmony!
And what a lovely surprise for Jake Harmer, age 7, fishing aboard his dad's boat Bounty, to land a fine Bass of 6lb 2oz. Well done Jake.

Thank you all for taking the time out to do the comp, and it was good to see some of our new members taking part.

Hope to see you all at the Pollack Comp on Saturday 9th June, weather permitting.

Subject - How To Catch More Fish

How To Catch More Fish

There was a very interesting fishing presentation at the club on Friday 24th February.
It was with Kevin Rouse, and he advised the best methods for catching a variety of fish species.

Some asked if the Presentation Slide Show could be made available, and with Kevin's permission you can take a look, or even save the file to your own PC.
If you click the Icon above it should open, or if you right click on it you will be able to save a copy for yourself.
Please note - You will need Microsoft Powerpoint (part of Microsoft Office suite) to view the file.
